Valentine’s Day Lipstick Shoot

Valentine's Day Lipstick Shoot | Grown-up Shoes

Two weeks ago Chelsea, Avery and I got together at one of my favorite venues in town, The Palm Door, for a shoot inspired by bright lipstick, dreamy images and Valentine’s Day. Between Avery’s makeup skills (it was so fun to have our makeup done!) and Chelsea’s camera, it was the perfect Friday morning: sparkles, dresses, pals and a table full of gorgeous lipsticks to try. I’m so excited with how the photos turned out!

Below are a few of my favorite shots.

Two of our shades from the shoot: YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Le Rouge and Tom Ford’s Violet Fatale.

How gorgeous are these two?? I loved Avery’s pastel pink—it went perfectly with her gold sparkles and almost had the effect of a nude lipstick. And Chelsea’s pink pout! The cutest. We all wore lipstick shades we don’t usually wear and it was fun to sort of see a different side of ourselves in these new colors. It’s incredible how lipstick can change your appearance!

I love a great red or dramatic pink for special occasions, but my favorite everyday lipsticks are CoverGirl Lipstain in Scarlet Pucker ($8 at the drugstore!), which is the perfect natural looking stain and Sex Machine by NARS (the name is hilarious) that Avery put on me at this shoot and I promptly went out and bought! It’s the perfect natural rose color.

I’d love to know: do you have a go-to lipstick or stain? Still on the hunt for the perfect shade?

Thanks for checking out our shoot and have a happy Valentine’s Day!

For a natural lip I go with Nars lip lacquer in Eros, for orange red, Nars Heat Wave, for red red, Maybelline’s red revival, though lately I’ve been obsessed with YSL’s glossy stain in #20 – I gush a little bit about it here:

And then for hot pink I go with Sephora Collection’s Mr. Lover:

Course, that doesn’t mean I don’t have a huge drawer full of other lipsticks… So hard to resist. That first photo of you is so gorgeous! Love it.

So adorable!! I hardly ever rock lipstick because I’m a huge chicken when it comes to makeup (and I almost always end up with it on my teeth) but you girls look too precious. Lovely job, ladies ~ Happy Valentine’s Day!
