We’ve all been there: it’s Halloween. You planned months ago on an amazing costume but now the night has come and you somehow have nothing to wear. Not to fear! With the help of my crafty team Amy + Jen, we’ve come up with three truly last-minute costumes you can pull together in just a couple of hours with minimum effort. None of these will require you to go to a costume shop, and all of them are pretty adorable to boot (and don’t worry—none of them are a “sexy” anything;). We’re kicking off the series with this darling Bubble Wrap Ballerina that is a cinch to put together. Here’s how:
Bubble Wrap Ballerina Instructions
• Put on tights and ballerina slippers (you can get tights at any Wallgreens/CVS and ballerina slippers from a dance supply store; feel free to substitute in your favorite ballet flats!
• Put on leotard or tank top (this grey tank, pictured, from Gap Body is my favorite, so stretchy and flattering—I think our model Candice went out and bought one right after this shoot!)
For the skirt
• For the skirt, we found that the roll of bubble wrap they sell at Office Max (about $20 for loads of bubblewrap) works best, because you’ll need a lot. Wrap it around yourself many times (around 10!) to get a lot of poof, and then tape the top really tightly around your waist, to the tank top (you’re basically taping the skirt to yourself). We found that this is a lot easier when you have a friend to help you. Check out the not-so-glamorous photo of me below, to see what the bubblewrap should look like (except make yours even poofier than this!):
• Finally, pull your hair into a ballerina bun and tie pink ribbon over your hair ties. Now go celebrate!
Two more fun Halloween Costume DIY’s coming next week. Stay tuned!
