Happy holiday season, friends!
I wanted to make something simple and sweet for this month’s wallpaper, so I used my own font for the Grown-up Shoes logo (which I only save for very special occasions;) and made something with a formal feel in black and white.
I feel like holiday stuff can get a little heavy handed with the cutesy-ness, so to balance out this darling but potentially corny phrase, I went with a black tie type. I’m toying with the idea of designing a small batch of cards each season to sell in my own little online paper shop and this is just the type of thing I would want to make. I’d love to send these to the letterpress and put them on a nice thick paper.
Just a reminder that as of February calendars will only be downloadable through the new and improved newsletter—so make sure to sign up in the sidebar if you’re not already! Can’t wait to show y’all the new blog look we’ve been working on and to get the pretty newsletter out into the world.
Okay…enough of my chatter, right? Get the download after the jump!

I’ve been playing around with some watercolor lately for a client and it’s so fun to sit and paint for awhile. It’s provided a really nice respite in what has been such a busy few months. As you can see, I’ve really only mastered the ombre effect so far, but I hope perhaps this fall or in the spring to do a little more painting, if only for myself and this blog. I love this quote from Anne of Green Gables; did you read those books or watch the show when you were younger?
Speaking of a good book; I’m on the hunt for my new read and if you have a suggestion, I’d love to hear it. My favorite books always come from recommendations:) Hoping your first week of October has been delightful.

When I was making this month’s calendar I was reminded of that wonderful line in You’ve Got Mail when Joe types to ShopGirl: Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.
That’s the way I feel about September. Even though I no longer go back to school this time of year, there will always be a special feeling in the first week of this month: a crisp new start to the season, a clean slate, the chance to be perfectly prepared for whatever life offers up this fall. It is, without a doubt, my favorite time of year. Bring on the shorter days, the bubbly local autumn beers, the UT tailgating (go horns, go!) and the crunch of leaves beneath my feet. I’m ready.

P.S. Mark your calendar: September 22nd is the first day of fall!

Did anyone else’s week fly by? I feel like I blinked and it’s suddenly Friday…and August! When did that happen? Special thanks to everyone who came out to our Madewell event last night! It was so fun seeing y’all in the gorgeous new denim!
This weekend I’m heading to New Orleans for a dear friend’s bachelorette party—we’re so excited! If you have any tips or great restaurants we need to know about please leave a comment! We’re there all weekend and will have lots of time to explore, eat and sip cocktails.
What do you have planned for the weekend ahead?

Not sure about you but June flew by over here. We welcomed two new babies into Adam’s family exactly two weeks apart almost to the minute! Nothing better than happy, healthy babies, is there?
Work wise, June kept me on my toes, but I’m hoping July brings a little more time to hang out, maybe float the river in Gruene and enjoy some evening beers with friends. What I’m loving about summer so far is cooking with all the delicious produce from our JBG organics box (pesto! tomato salad! potato gratin! salsa!), taking time to read some good books and hitting the movie theatre—I love being in a cool, dark theatre when it’s hot and sunny outside.
What’s on your agenda this month? Some can’t-miss posts from June + links to your festive calendar below!
